Moultrie - “Swervin” (feat. Yung Rippa & Reign) (2012)

Swerving in a ‘Burban seems like a terrible idea for a few reasons, but Moultrie’s rapper-beat maker skill set makes this song pretty cool.

I’m always intrigued by rappers who also make beats like Bone Baby and Lunch Money. I think because they utilize parts of their musical intuition for instruments as well as vocals, they inherently develop unique flows. Moultrie’s mixtape from last year I Am Krazy Muzik Vol. 1 doesn’t show a great amount of creativity or ability, but he kills it with “Swervin”. Each inflection of the syllables in

my eyes low and I’m swervin,

bending corners in that ‘Burban

fits nicely between the beat’s atmospheric synth melody. But then he says something like “R.I.P. who died,” which is for all of the dead ever, I assume? In spite of that line, there is some legitimately good rapping in this.

In other news: I’ve been overthinking the clothing combinations for how to make the new Marlins hat work. Yung Rippa clearly hasn’t and it works for him so I’ll just jock his style when possible.
