Ice Berg - “Yo Girlfriend” (2012)

It’s summertime and ‘Berg is having fun again. This video is pretty much NSFW btw (I’m pretty uncomfortable watching it in this coffee shop).

One of my metrics to determine a good song is how jookable it is. Considering I cant dance this tends to use a very liberal scale. But this song by Ice Berg gets a 100 (the units for this scale haven’t been figured out yet).

I got better conversation than Oprah

The song is from last year’s Mr. L.I.V.E. 2Video, directed by Matthew Hoyos, was released yesterday.

Rum Squad - “Armed & Dangerous” (Feat. Ice Berg) (2011)

Wow this is probably the best verse from ‘Berg in a long time. Lately his mixtapes have been missing the hunger that his flows had a few years ago.

Dade Covers “Tony Montana”

Tony Montana might be a fictional character from Miami but he actually lives somewhere in the minds of a few rappers from the area. That’s the only way I can reason the urge to try to do a take on Future’s Tony Montana”.

Vulcha Smooth - Tony Montana (Freestyle)

It should be a written guideline not to bite the original too hard if you’re going to rap over the beat for an already popular song. I appreciate Vulcha Smooth for at least trying to be original and keeping me entertained with “eeyah’s” sprinkled about.

EEYAH is becoming my favorite ad lib to shout out in real life (surpassing “woop-woop”) despite it sounding like a cowboy’s “yee-haw”.

Ice Berg - “Tony Montana (Freestyle)”

A freestyle like this just disappoints me because it seems like Ice Berg is becoming too much of a rapper. There’s a real hunger you hear when he was on beats a few years ago

Ballgreezy - Tony Montana Freestyle

For some reason Ballgreezy decided to abandon his smooth flow for the best Future imitation he could do. It got him 12000 hits on World Star, so, success?

FloKid - “Speakers Blow” (feat. Ice Berg)

It’s good to hear Ice Berg on this type of beat that seems to cyclically build and build. Although Snap is growing on me, initially it left much to be desired. Normally he feeds off unorthodox drum roll patterns to intimidate you with punchlines. At least there is a semblance of his normal form in this song.

Honestly, I didn’t think I’d hear from FloKid again after watching a couple of his highly erotic freestyle* remixes videos. His flow & lyrical content is too clean cut for the underground scene (read: strip clubs), but I’m pleasantly surprised to hear him developing into a competent rapper.

Berg’s Mr. L.I.V.E. 2.5 mixtape should be out sometime this week.
